Hanford Reach steelhead fishery still poor

Here is the latest Columbia River steelhead fishing report for the Hanford Reach area by Paul Hoffarth, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist in Pasco:

Steelhead fishing continues to be slow in the Hanford Reach.  Large numbers of tumble weeds (Russian thistle) were present in the river this week after the heavy winds from the week prior.  Staff interviewed 11 anglers this past week at the Snyder and Ringold boat launches that fished 44 hours and harvested one hatchery steelhead and released one wild steelhead.  For the month of January, 12 hatchery steelhead have been harvested and seven unclipped steelhead have been released.
