Everett Blackmouth Derby on Saturday produced a good catch of fish

10002945_10203414457630953_129707092_nThe Everett Blackmouth Derby was held on Saturday, and 93 anglers caught 50 chinook under good weather conditions.

“The majority of fish were caught on either Coho Killers or Kingfisher spoons, and the winning fish was caught on a green splatterback Coho Killer off Possession Bar,” said Woody Woods, a spokesman for the derby.

“We had double the count of fish compared to last year so it was pretty good, and some people were headed in by 7 and 8 a.m. with their fish,” Woods said.

Derby results: 1, Charlie Wilson, 12.42 pound gutted fish, $3,000; 2, Bob Uhrick, 10.20 pounds, $1,500; 3, Bob Medin, 10.09 pounds, $500; 4, Jeff Thomas, 10.05 pounds, $250; 5, Dave Fulwiler, 9.66 pounds, merchandise prize.

A check from the Everett ramp on Saturday showed 80 boats with 208 anglers who caught 41 chinook.

The Everett Blackmouth Derby is hosted by the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club and Everett Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers, and is part of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series.

The Northwest Series, which began with seven events in 2004, now draws between 7,000 and 8,000 people annually.

The grand prize is a raffle drawing at the Everett Coho Derby on Sept. 22-23 for a $65,000 fully-loaded 21-foot River Hawk boat. There will also be a sleek fully-loaded fishing Riverhawk 14-foot Pro V boat with trailer given away in a kids raffle.

In order to win the grand prize boat, anglers can fill out a Northwest Salmon Derby Series raffle ticket at any of the 15 derbies (before Sept. 22 when the boat is given away).

Every angler’s name, address, telephone number and e-mail will be entered, free, into the drawing during the derbies. One ticket will be issued per angler per derby. For example, if an angler entered all 15 derbies, their name would be entered 15 times, whether they caught a fish or not during any derby. Remember, in order to win the boat, purchase of a derby ticket from the host derby is not required. One entry per person, per derby.

Any anglers participating in derbies after Sept. 21 will be entered to win the grand prize for the 2015 Series.

Remaining derby series schedule: Bellingham Salmon Derby, July 11-13; Harbor Marine Salmon Tournament in Everett, July 26-27; South King County Puget Sound Anglers Salmon Derby in Des Moines, Aug. 2; Gig Harbor Puget Sound Anglers Salmon Derby, Aug. 9; South Sound Salmon Derby, Aug. 16; Sekiu Salmon Derby, Aug. 23-24; Willapa Bay Salmon Derby, Aug. 30; Columbia River Fall Salmon Derby in Vancouver, Aug. 30; Edmonds Coho Derby, Sept. 6; Everett Coho Derby, Sept.?20-21; Bayside Marine Salmon Derby in Everett, Nov. 1-2; and Resurrection Salmon Derby in Friday Harbor, Dec. 5-6.
