Hatchery chinook putting on a show for anglers in Strait of Juan de Fuca

The Strait of Juan de Fuca hatchery-marked chinook fishery remains one of the better choices heading into this week with good catches from Port Angeles to Sekiu.

“We had a few fish caught at Sekiu, and the fish showed up at Port Angeles,” said Larry Bennett, the head state Fish and Wildlife creel checker in the Strait. “I didn’t hear anything from Freshwater Bay this past week.”

Fish checks from the Olson’s Resort ramp at Sekiu showed three boats with six anglers March 20 caught two Chinook; four with eight on Friday caught two Chinook; and five with 16 on Sunday caught eight Chinook.

At the Ediz Hook ramp in Port Angeles 21 with 38 on Friday caught 24 Chinook; 19 with36 on Saturday caught 45 Chinook; and 23 with 48 on Sunday caught 24 Chinook.

At the Port Angeles Boat Haven Marina ramp three boats with eight anglers on Friday caught two Chinook; and one with three caught on Saturday six Chinook.

At the John Wayne Marina, Sequim three with five on Friday caught nine Chinook; two with three on Saturday caught two Chinook; and five with nine on Sunday caught no fish.
