Breakdown of 2014-15 sport marine salmon fishing seasons

Here are the marine salmon fishing seasons for 2014-15 provided by state Fish and Wildlife that were announced Wednesday (April 9) at the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting in Vancouver:

AREA 5 – SEKIU

Nov 1 – Feb. 15 Closed
Feb. 16 – April 10 Open 2, release wild Chinook
April 11 – April 30 Closed

Kydaka Point Closure:  Waters south of a line from Kydaka Point westerly approximately 4 miles to Shipwreck Point are closed to fishing for salmon July 1 through October 31.

AREA 6 – PORT ANGELES

July 1 – Aug. 15 Open, except closures 2, plus 2 additional sockeye, release   chum, wild Chinook, and wild coho; release all Chinook east of Ediz Hook.
Aug. 16 – Sept. 30 Open, except closures 2, plus 2 additional sockeye   through Aug. 31, release Chinook, chum, and wild coho.
Oct. 1 – Oct. 31 Open, except closures 2, no more than 1 Chinook.  See closures and Dungeness Bay fishery   below.
Nov. 1 – Nov. 30 Closed
Dec. 1 – April 10 Open, except closure 2, release wild Chinook.
April 11 – April 30 Closed
Dungeness   Bay
Oct. 1 – Oct. 31 Open 2, coho only.

Dungeness Bay Closure:  Waters inside a line from Dungeness Spit Lighthouse to the #2 Buoy, then to the Port Williams Boat Ramp, closed to fishing for salmon, except October 1 – October 31, open to fishing for coho only.

Freshwater Bay Closure (Elwha River mouth area):  Waters south of a line from Angeles Point westerly approximately 4 miles to Observatory Point are closed to fishing July 1 through October 31.

Port Angeles Harbor Closure:  Waters of Port Angeles Harbor west of a line from the tip of Ediz Hook southerly to the ITT Rayonier Dock are closed to salmon fishing July 1 through October 31.

Sequim Bay Closure:  Waters of Sequim Bay south of a line from the southern end of Gibson Spit to the west end of Travis Spit closed to salmon fishing October 1 through October 31.

Discovery Bay Closure:  Waters of Discovery Bay south of a line from the Gardiner Boat Ramp to Beckett Point closed to salmon fishing October 1 through October 31.

AREA 7 – SAN JUAN ISLANDS

Oct. 1 – Oct. 31 Open, except closures 2, release wild Chinook.  and wild coho.
Nov. 1 – Nov. 30 Closed
Dec. 1 – April 30 Open, except closures 2, release wild Chinook.
Bellingham   Bay
Aug. 16 – Oct. 31 Open 4, no more than 2 Chinook, release   wild Chinook Oct. 1-31

Bellingham Bay Closure and Fishery:  Same as Marine Area 7 except closed April 1 – April 30, closed July 1 – August 15, and fishery rules Aug. 16 – Oct. 31.

Samish Bay Closure: Closed to salmon fishing April 1 – April 30 and July 1 – October 15; same rules as Bellingham Bay fishery Oct. 16 – 31.

Lummi Indian Reservation and Lummi Bay closure: Reservation closed to non-Indian fishing and/or access.  Waters east of a line from Gooseberry Point to Sandy Point closed to salmon fishing September 2 – October 14.

Southern Rosario Strait/Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca closure: Closed for salmon fishing July 1 – September 30.

AREA 8-1 – DECEPTION PASS, SKAGIT BAY

Oct. 1 – Oct. 31 Open, except closure 2, release Chinook.
Nov. 1 – April 30 Open, except closure 2, release wild Chinook.
Tulalip   Terminal Area
May 30– Sept. 1 Open Fridays – Noon Mondays,   except closed on June 21st and closure 2, two-pole endorsement valid.  Closed June 21st.
Sept. 6 – Sept. 21 Open Saturdays and Sundays only,   except closure 2, two-pole endorsement valid.

Tulalip Bay Closure:  Closed to all fishing east of a line from Mission Point to Hermosa Point.

Tulalip Terminal Area Salmon Fishery:  Waters west of a line from Mission Point to Hermosa Point and contained within 2,000 feet of shore between the pilings at Old Bowers Resort (122°16.42′W, 48°02.88′N) to 2,000 feet from shore (122°16.79′W, 48°02.63′N) and north to 2,000 feet from shore (122°19.06′W, 48°04.36′N) of the boundary marker approximately 1.4 miles north of Hermosa Point (122°18.64′W, 48°04.57′N).  Same rules as area 8-2 except May 30 – September 21.

AREA 9 – ADMIRALTY INLET

Dec. 1 – Jan. 15 Closed
Jan. 16 – April 15 Open, except closures 2, release wild Chinook
April 16 – April 30 Closed
Edmonds   Fishing Pier
Year – Round Open 2, no more than 1 Chinook, release   chum Aug. 1 – Sept. 30.

Edmonds Public Fishing Pier:  Waters inside a line from the boundary marker on the north breakwater to southernmost marker buoy; then to the northernmost marker buoy; then to north end of the city of Edmonds public beach is closed to salmon fishing except when fishing from the pier.

Hood Canal Salmon Closure:  Waters of Marine Area 9 south of a line from Foulweather Bluff to Olele Point closed to salmon fishing July 16 through August 31; except lawful to fish from shore contained within the boundary of Salsbury Point Park, daily limit 2 coho only.

AREA 10 – SEATTLE, BREMERTON

July 1 – July 15 Open, except closures and special rules 2, release Chinook

Sept. 1 – Sept. 30 Open, except closures and special rules 2, release Chinook and release   chum through Sept. 15.
Oct. 1 – Jan 31 Open, except closures and special   rules 2, release wild Chinook.
Feb. 1 – April 30 Closed
Sinclair   Inlet Fishery
July 1 – Sept. 30 Open 3, release wild Chinook and   release chum Aug. 1 – Sept. 15.  Two-pole   endorsement valid.
Fishing Piers: Terminal 86, Seacrest, Waterman, Bremerton   Boardwalk, and Illahee
Year – Round Open 2, no more than 1 Chinook and release   chum Aug. 1 – Sept. 15.

Catch-and-Release Fishery:  Catch-and-release only north of a line from Point Monroe to Meadow Point only from June 1 – June 30.

Elliot Bay Public Fishing Pier:  Waters within 100 yards of the Elliot Bay Public Fishing Pier closed to salmon fishing except when fishing from the pier.

Duwamish Waterway Special Rules:  A) Downstream of 1st Ave. South Bridge, record catch as part of area 10.  B) Closed to salmon fishing July 1 – August 31.  C)  1st Ave. South Bridge downstream to an east-west line through SW Hanford St. on Harbor Island (including water at the Spokane St. Bridge) from September 1 – October 31 has additional restrictions that include: night closure, Anti-Snagging Rule, and only salmon hooked inside the mouth may be retained.

Agate Pass Closure:  Waters west of a line from Point Monroe to Indianola and east of a line from Point Bolin to Battle Point, January 1 – March 31 catch and release, fly fishing only; lead core line prohibited.

Shilshole Bay Closure:  Waters southeast of a line from Meadow Point to West Point closed to salmon fishing July 1 – August 31.

Elliott Bay Closure: Waters of Elliot Bay east of a line from West Point to Alki Point closed to salmon fishing July 1 – August 31.

Sinclair Inlet Fishery:  Waters of Sinclair Inlet and Port Orchard south of the Manette Bridge, south of a line true west from Battle Point, and west of a line drawn true south from Point White.  Same rules as area 10 except July 1 – September 30.

AREA 11 – TACOMA, VASHON ISLAND

Fishing Piers:  Dash   Point, Les Davis, Des Moines, Redondo, Point Defiance Boathouse
Year – Round Open 2, no more than 1 Chinook.

Les Davis, Dash Point, and Des Moines Fishing Piers:  Waters within 100 yards of Les Davis, Dash Point, and Des Moines fishing piers is closed to salmon fishing, except when fishing from the piers.

Commencement Bay Salmon Closure:  Waters east of a line from the Cliff House Restaurant to the Sperry Ocean Dock closed to salmon fishing April 1 – April 30 and June 1 – July 31.

AREA 12 – HOOD CANAL

Hoodsport   Hatchery Fishery
July 1 – Dec. 31 Open, except closure 4, no more than 2, Chinook > 24,   release chum July 1 – Oct. 15.  See   area description below.
Quilcene/Dabob   Bay Fishery
Aug. 16 – Oct. 15 Open, except closure 4 coho only.  See area description below.

Enetai Hatchery Outfall Closure:  Waters within 100 yards of the Enetai Hatchery outfall closed to salmon fishing.

Big Beef Closure:  Waters within 100 feet of the Seabeck Hwy. NW Big Beef Creek Bridge closed to salmon fishing August 1 – November 30.

Hoodsport Hatchery Salmon Fishery:  Waters within a 2,000 foot arc seaward of the yellow markers at the mouth of Finch Creek.  Same rules as area 12, except July 1 – December 31.

Hoodsport Hatchery Closure:  All waters between 2 yellow buoys at the mouth and the hatchery weirs, including waters within the channel created by Finch Creek on exposed tidelands, and fishing from any part of the Hoodsport Hatchery structure are closed to salmon fishing, except persons with disabilities who permanently use a wheelchair and/or who have a designated harvester card and follow area 12 rules.

Quilcene/Dabob Bay Coho Fishery:  Waters north of a line true east from Point Whitney to the Toandos Peninsula.  Same rules as area 12, except August 16 – October 15.

Tarboo Bay Closure:  Waters north of Broad Spit (northern Dabob Bay) closed to salmon fishing September 16 – December 31.

AREA 13 – SOUTH PUGET SOUND

May 1 – June 30 Open, except closures 2, release wild Chinook, two-pole   endorsement valid.
July 1 – Oct. 31 Open, except closures 2, release wild coho and wild Chinook,   two-pole endorsement valid.
Nov. 1 – April 30 Open, except closures 2, release wild Chinook, two-pole   endorsement valid.
Fox Island Fishing Pier
Year-round Open 2, no more than 1 Chinook.  Release wild coho July 1 – Oct. 31.

Minter Creek Mouth Salmon Closure:  Waters within 1,000 feet of the outer oyster stakes at the creek mouth area closed to salmon fishing April 16 through September 30.

Toliva Shoal Closure:  Closed to fishing for salmon within 500 yards of the buoy on Toliva Shoal except May 1 – June 15.

Budd Inlet Closures and Gear Restrictions:  Waters south of radio tower line, night closure and Anti-Snagging Rule in effect July 16 through October 31.  Waters south of Fourth Avenue Bridge closed to salmon fishing.  Waters between the Fourth Avenue Bridge and south of a line from the northwest corner of the Thriftway Market building to a point 100 yards north of the railroad bridge closed to salmon fishing.
