Outdoor writer Dave Graybill’s opening day tips

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

The biggest fishing weekend of the year is coming up this Saturday and Sunday.  If you haven’t planned where you want to go for opening weekend, there are ways to narrow it down.

A couple of years ago the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife changed their strategy on fish plants, increasing the size anglers can expect to take in our lakes on opening weekend.  Response from the public has been very positive, with even more anglers coming to our lakes than ever before.

To get current information on when fish plants are scheduled and even what size fish are being put in our lakes, you can visit the WDFW web site and look under the Fishing Section.

You will find both 2014 Annual Stocking Schedule and the Weekly Stocking Report.  We are waiting for our spring salmon to arrive to the upper Columbia, but both the Snake River and the Yakima River have open seasons right now.

To get the details on where and when you can fish on these rivers go the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife web site and check under Latest News, or click Fishing and look under Emergency Rules and Changes, and search freshwater then rivers alphabetically at http://wdfw.wa.gov/.
