Outdoor writer Dave Graybill’s east side fishing report

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

In case you haven’t heard the Wenatchee River is open to fishing for spring salmon. The opening of the river has caused quite a stir, as anglers haven’t been able to fish for springers here for over 20 years.

Over 10,000 adipose fin clipped spring salmon are expected to return to the river this year, so a season has been opened on two sections of the river.

One is from the Washington State Parks foot bridge at Confluence Park to 400 feet below Dryden Dam. The other is from the confluence of Peshastin Creek to the downstream side of the confluence with the Icicle River and from that point to the marker on the opposite shore. Fishing is allowed seven days a week and anglers are required keep all clipped fish until they reach their limit.

This is a selective fishery, with barbless hooks required, but bait is allowed. The season is until further notice. Anglers must have a valid license and the Salmon and Steelhead Endorsement.

Funds from the Endorsement program have made this selective fishery and other possible. Please visit the Department of Fish and Wildlife web site for complete details on this new season.
