State Fish and Wildlife Columbia River regional fish checks

Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River – 16 boat anglers kept 4 adult spring Chinook, 1 jack spring Chinook, and 14 summer run steelhead.  72 bank anglers kept 8 adult spring Chinook, 3 jack spring Chinook, and 5 summer steelhead plus released 2 adult spring Chinook.

Last week Tacoma Power recovered 224 spring Chinook adults, 134 jacks, 50 mini-jacks, and 187 summer-run steelhead during five days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator.

During the past week Tacoma Power employees released 21 spring Chinook adults and eight jacks into the Cispus River above the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek, 67 spring Chinook adults and 114 jacks into Lake Scanewa above Cowlitz Falls Dam, and 48 spring Chinook mini-jacks into Riffe Lake at Mossyrock Park.

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 5,120 cubic feet per second on Monday, June 23. Water visibility is 10 feet.

Wind River – June 30 is the last day to fish for spring chinook above Shipherd Falls.

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam – Last week we sampled 1,394 salmonid anglers (including 207 boats) with 185 adult and 11 jack summer Chinook, 81 steelhead, and 21 sockeye.  74 (40%) of the adult Chinook were kept.

57 (70%) of the steelhead caught were kept.  17 (81%) of the sockeye were kept though all now can be retained.

Adult Chinook and sockeye may be retained through June 30.

Bonneville Pool – Boat anglers are catching some sockeye.

The Dalles Pool – Light effort and catches.

Sturgeon

Lower Columbia from Marker 82 downstream – In addition, we sampled 18 sturgeon anglers (6 boats) with 36 legals released.

Bonneville Pool – Boat anglers averaged a legal kept per about every 7 rods while bank anglers averaged one per every 19.5 rods.  Scheduled to be catch-and-release only through the end of the year.

The Dalles Pool – Boat anglers are catching some legals.

Walleye and Bass

Lower Columbia mainstem below Bonneville Dam – 5 walleye anglers (3 boats) had no catch.

Bonneville Pool – Boat anglers averaged 4 bass kept/released per rod.  No effort was observed for walleye.

The Dalles Pool – Boat anglers are catching some bass and walleye.

Trout

Shad

Lower Columbia mainstem below Bonneville Dam – We also sampled 269 shad anglers (including 7 boats) with 1,031 shad kept and 17 released.
