Columbia River summer king return upgraded from preseaon figures

While the Columbia River sockeye have been gaining all the attention this week, the summer king return is quietly waxing the odds as well.

The Columbia River summer chinook return has been increased from 67,500 to 74,000, and big river below Bonneville Dam could likely reopen Friday.

Bonneville Dam passage of salmon through July 7 includes 50,490 summer Chinook (since June 16). The adult summer chinook return would be the fourth largest since at least 1980 (record is 89,500 in 2002).

State fisheries managers are meeting Wednesday to discuss is that is a possibility. Stay tuned…
