The Buoy-10 Salmon Challenge, hosted by the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association, was held last Friday with more than 300 anglers trying their luck in what has turned out to be a fantastic late summer fishery.
The winning team was the boat of R.J. Bennett with an average weight of 22.18 pounds per angler. The second place team was the boat of Cory Cooper with an average weight of 20.2 pounds.
Third place went to Cameron Black’s boat team with an average of 18.58 pounds; in fourth was Team Lamiglas fishing with Jason Hambly who caught 16 pounds; fifth went to Team Shimano on the boat of Scott Weedman with 15.47 pounds.
Steve Apple landed the largest king of the event that weighed 29.35pounds and he took home $1,000, and the largest coho was caught by Jerek Wall, which weighed 10.95 pounds and was worth $500.
