Outdoor writer Dave Graybill looks at late-summer eastside fishing options

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

The spectacular sockeye fishing season on Lake Wenatchee is coming to an end on September 1st.

This allows anglers the opportunity to enjoy a last chance to fish the lake through Labor Day Weekend. I fished the lake recently and my buddy Jim Passage and I landed five and lost five in a morning’s fishing.

Fish are showing their spawning colors now and it has been an excellent year for sockeye, with as many as 90,000 fish reaching the lake.

In another move to provide anglers more fishing opportunity the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is opening the fall Chinook fishery on the Priest Rapids Pool two days early, giving folks Labor Day Weekend to fish here. The limit is six fish, two of which may be adults, and two poles are allowed through August 31st. There are two seminars coming up on fall salmon fishing.

The first is at Town Ford on Wednesday, September 10th, starting at 6 p.m. Rick Graybill will be the presenter. On Saturday, September 13th, I will be doing a seminar at Bob Feil Boats and Motors, staring at 1 p.m.
