The Hoodsport Hatchery in Hood Canal is falling short on their chinook salmon spawning escapement goal, and state Fish and Wildlife will close the fishing zone off the hatchery beginning Saturday, Aug. 30 until further notice.
The spawning escapement goal is 2,000 kings, and through Aug. 26, only 36 adult fish had been trapped at the hatchery.
The tribal fishery has also ended, and both the sport and tribal fisheries could reopen once the fish collection goal is achieved.
The one exception is the Hoodsport ADA-accessible fishing platform, which will remain open to anglers with disabilities following the same regulations for the Hoodsport Hatchery Zone regulations found in the regulation pamphlet.
Other salmon fisheries in Hood Canal (Marine Catch Area 12) are unaffected by this newly implemented rule.
