The Puget Sound Anglers Sno-King Chapter Edmonds Coho Derby is Saturday, Sept. 6.

Cost is $30 by Friday, Sept. 5. First place for the largest coho is $5,000; second is $2,000; and third is $1,000.

Money from the derby benefits salmon conservation, Everett Lions Club Fishing for the Blind and Kids Fishing Programs.

Last year’s Edmonds Coho Derby produced 395 coho for almost 1,000 anglers, and the winning coho was an 11 pound, 8.16 ounce coho caught by 10-year-old Essix Kelly of Richmond Beach who was plying the waters about 750 yards off the Edmonds Marina breakwater. The record catch for the derby occurred in 2013 when 975 anglers landed 599 coho.

Other top finishers were: 2, Michael Roth, 10 pound-15.36 ounces; 3, Bob Fakkema, 10-12.64; 4, Mike Chow, 10-8.32; 5, Alex Davis, 9-13.92; 6, Pete Howell, 9-7.36; 7, Dina Khries, 9-6.56; 8, Aaron Burdette, 9-4.00; 9, Matt Grimm, 9-2.08; 10, Doug Haldeman, 9-0.

The event is also part of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series, which hosts 15 derbies throughout the year. Drawing for a Grand Prize Derby Series fully-equipped 21-foot Riverhawk boat with Mercury motor will be presented to one lucky winner during the Everett Coho Derby Sept. 20-21. There is also a new drawing for the kids division and the winner will get a 14-foot Riverhawk Pro V boat with Mercury motor. Anglers participating in derby events after Sept. 21 will be entered to win the 2015 Series grand prize. For details, go to http://www.northwestsalmonderbyseries.com/.
