Late summer and autumn are the perfect time to take a hike into the mountains and catch fish in an array of alpine lakes.

This type of fishing can be daunting to some who are unfamiliar and traveled the less beaten roads, but those who take the time to do the research will be rewarded with some great action.

Now state Fish and Wildlife has created a webpage to get anglers on the fish in hundreds of lakes – including 60 “getting started” lakes – that are stiuated thousands of feet above sea level throughout the state.

According to the state fisheries news release the new webpage includes:

Fish stocking data showing when, where, and which species were stocked in high elevation lakes.

Lake profiles including descriptions of the lakes, species to target, elevation, and coordinates.

The Great Getaways vacation planning section, which provides extensive information about family-friendly fishing vacations.

Access details, including trail information and notable geographic features.
