Dungeness River temporarily closed to all fishing due to low water flows

State Fish and has temporarily closed the coho fishing opener on the Dungeness River in the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca due to low stream flows.

The river from the mouth upstream to the hatchery intake pipe (at river mile 11.3) is closed from Wednesday (Oct. 8) through Wednesday (Oct. 15), but could go beyond those dates if water flows remain low.

The low water flow in the Dungeness leaves chinook, listed on the Endangered Species Act, vulnerable during their spawning time. When more rainfall arrives and water flows increase then state Fish and Wildlife will reopen the river for coho fishing.
