State Fish and Wildlife Columbia River regional fishing reports

Salmon/Steelhead

Cowlitz River – Excellent for coho throughout the river with boat anglers averaging nearly a fish kept per rod and bank anglers one for every 2 rods.  Some fall Chinook, summer run steelhead, and sea run cutthroats are also being caught.

Lewis River – Mainstem and North Fork Lewis are producing some fall Chinook and coho.

Lower Columbia mainstem below Bonneville Dam – Last week we sampled 183 salmonid anglers (including 52 boats) with 13 adult fall Chinook, 58 adult coho, and no steelhead.   All but one of the adult Chinook caught were kept although it was legal to retain all fish. 49 (84%) of the adult coho caught were kept.

We did not sample any steelhead last week.

Last week on the lower Columbia, anglers made 5,300 trips and caught 595 adult Chinook (590 kept and five released) 1,140 adult coho (992 kept and 148 released) and 12 summer steelhead (kept).

Bonneville Pool – Producing some fall Chinook and coho.

Sturgeon and Walleye – We did not sample any anglers fishing for either specie last week.
