Columbia king fishery near Bridgeport still going strong

Here is the latest fishing report from Dave Graybill, longtime Eastern Washington outdoor radio host and angler:

My good friend Jim Passage wanted to know how to catch kings on the Columbia River, so we traveled to Bridgeport. I was sure that we could get some fish trolling Super Baits, and he should know how to use these effective lures.

I also figured we could spend some time fishing for steelhead here, as we have done in the past. Sure enough, the kings were biting, and they loved the Super Baits, in the old style. We got eight of them. The first was about 20 pounds and the others were all jacks.

We switched to our steelhead gear and the fish he got on his shrimp-baited jig was a 20-pound king! He thought that was great. It was easily the biggest fish he had caught on this gear and was surprises that the kings would hit such a thing. We ran over to another hole and made a couple more drifts.

Boom his bobber went down and the fish took a terrific run and then it came up to the surface, thrashed and broke the ten-pound leader. It was another king. If you want to do battle with a bunch of king salmon, Bridgeport is the place to do it.
