Hanford Reach steelhead fishery picking up steam

Here is the latest news on the Columbia River’s Hanford Reach steelhead fishery reported by Paul Hoffarth, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist in Pasco:

Steelhead fishing is finally picking up in the open area of the Hanford Reach (Hwy 395 to old Hanford townsite).

State Fish and Wildlife staff interviewed 129 bank anglers with 65 steelhead and 20 boats (37 anglers) with 20 steelhead.  Bank anglers averaged 1 steelhead every 6.3 hours and boat anglers were taking 8 pole hours to catch a steelhead (1 steelhead per boat).
