Coastal razor clam digging is excellent as final approval by state fisheries coming soon

clam5 (2)There’s no doubt the coastal beaches are just loaded with oodles of razor clams, and success is all about what kind of weather that Mother Nature dishes out during the openers.

The most recent digs Nov. 4-11 produced some excellent digging under very good surf and weather conditions.

At Long Beach, 7,656 diggers Nov. 4-11 dug up 110,618 razor clams for a 14.4 clam per person average (the first 15 clams dug regardless of size or condition is a daily limit).

At Twin Harbors, 7,097 diggers Nov. 4-11 had 104,503 razor clams for a 14.7 average. Copalis Beach was open Nov. 8, and 3,128 diggers harvested 42,243 razor clams for a 13.5 average. At Mocrocks, 3,741 diggers Nov. 7-9 had 51,386 razor clams for a 13.7 average.

For the 21 days of digging since the season opened on Oct. 7, 51,540 diggers took home 676,236 clams (701,207 including clams wastage).

The season average is 13.7 at Long Beach; 13.9 at Twin Harbors; 9.2 at Copalis; and 12.8 at Mocrocks.

Final approval on the next series of razor clam digs should be announced by Friday (Nov. 14).

Long Beach and Twin Harbors is tentatively planned to open Nov. 20-26; Mocrocks on Nov. 21-23; and Copalis on Nov. 22. Digging is allowed from noon to midnight only.

Additional digs are also scheduled through Dec. 31, and more will be scheduled after the New Year. Details: http://seattletimes.com/html/outdoors/2024637507_outnotes28xml.html.
