The scenario during the third day of the Tengu Blackmouth Derby held Sunday, Nov. 16 was eerily similar to that of the week before.
“Very little action and cold weather for 23 members on Sunday,” said Doug Handa, the derby president. “Déjà vu for the same member as last week who once again caught a legal blackmouth but missed the 11 a.m. cutoff. That fish again was caught from the Elliott Bay Marina, very late in the morning. Birds were working huge balls of bait off the West Waterway early in the morning but members could only catch small shakers there.”
On Sunday, Oct. 27, the largest fish was caught by Justin Wong of Seattle and weighed 13 pounds, 9 ounces; and the other was landed by his dad, Benny Wong, and weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces.
The Tengu Blackmouth Salmon Fun Derby is held every Sunday through Dec. 28 from daybreak to 11 a.m. at the Seacrest Boathouse in West Seattle. Cost is $15 per person, and $5 for kids under age 12. Details: 206-324-7600.
