Four water access sites on Upper Columbia closed since last March still remain off-limits to the public

The closure along a huge section of the Columbia River remains closed at four water access sites now through Jan. 15.

Work is continuing to repair the fractured spillway on the Wanapum Dam that was damaged last March forced state Fish and Wildlife to close the Yo Yo, Old Vantage Highway, Sunland Estates and Frenchman Coulee water access sites as well access to the beaches.

The Grant County Public Utility District had to withdraw the water at the Wanapum Reservoir down to record levels to relieve pressure on the dam.

Also are the lower ends of roads that lead into the reservoir at the Colockum and L.T. Murray Wildlife Areas in Kittitas and Chelan counties, and the Columbia Basin Wildlife Area in Grant County.

The upland sections of the wildlife areas above the ordinary high-water level are still open to the public.
