Another round of coastal razor clam digs set to begin Wednesday night

20razor2013Time to dig into more coastal razor clam digging time as the next series is set to begin Wednesday night at Long Beach and Twin Harbors.

When the weather and surf are ideal it is usually good clam digging on all open beaches, according to Dan Ayres, the head state Fish and Wildlife shellfish manager.

Long Beach and Twin Harbors is open Wednesday to Tuesday (Dec. 3-9); Mocrocks on Friday to Sunday (Dec. 5-7); and Copalis on Saturday only (Dec. 6). Digging is open each day from noon to midnight only.

More digs are planned at Long Beach and Twin Harbors on Dec. 19-23, Dec. 31-Jan. 7, Jan. 17-24, Jan. 3-Feb. 6 and Feb. 15-22; Mocrocks on Dec. 19-21, Dec. 31-Jan. 4, Jan. 17-18, Jan. 23-24, Jan. 30-Feb. 1 and Feb. 20-22; and Copalis on Dec. 20, Dec. 31-Jan. 3, Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Jan. 31 and Feb. 21.

A daily limit is the first 15 clams dug regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container.

Low tides: Dec. 3, minus-0.1 feet at 4:14 p.m.; Dec. 4, -0.6 at 5:02 p.m.; Dec. 5, -0.9 at 5:45 p.m.; Dec. 6, -1.0 at 6:26 p.m.; Dec. 7, -0.9 at 7:05 p.m.; Dec. 8, -0.6 at 7:44 p.m.; and Dec. 9, -0.2 at 8:21 p.m.
