The Tengu Salmon Derby anglers caught a break in the weather on Elliott Bay this past Sunday, and a total of 30 members caught two blackmouth.
“Great weather on Sunday allowed members to fish all over Elliott Bay, but they could only get two keepers to the scales,” said Doug Hanada, the derby president. “The winning fish came off the Elliott Bay Marina late in morning while the other was caught off Duwamish Head early morning.”
“Larger shakers also taken off the Head despite the lack of bait there,” Hanada said. “Tons of bait reported off the West Waterway but members even had trouble getting shakers to bite. Members are also catching numerous squid while fishing all over the Bay.”
Derby results: 1, Benson Wong, 7 pounds, 13 ounces; 2, Justin Wong, 5-9.
The largest fish this season in the derby was caught during the first week on Oct. 26, by Justin Wong, and weighed 13 pounds, 9 ounces.
