Foggy weather didn’t stop 27 Tengu Blackmouth Derby anglers from venturing out into Elliott Bay this past Sunday.

Marcus Nitta caught the only blackmouth a 6 pounder off the Elliott Bay Marina during mid-morning.

“There were some larger shakers taken there as well, but very little bait other than squid lining the bottom,” said Doug Hanada, the Tengu Derby president. “Still lots of bait reported off the West Waterway, but not much feeding on them. Members continue catching numerous squid while fishing all over the Bay.”

The largest fish this season in the derby was caught during the first week on Oct. 26, by Justin Wong, and weighed 13 pounds, 9 ounces.

The Tengu Blackmouth Salmon Fun Derby is held every Sunday through Dec. 28 from daybreak to 11 a.m. at the Seacrest Boathouse in West Seattle. Cost is $15 per person, and $5 for kids under age 12. Details: 206-324-7600.
