Celebrate New Years Eve with a trip to coast for razor clam digging

When the weather has cooperated diggers have been able to get their 15 clam razor clam daily limit fairly easily with most averaging 4 to 5 inches, according to Dan Ayres, the state Fish and Wildlife head coastal shellfish manager.

So far since the season began Oct. 7, 25,204 diggers have gotten 343,915 clams at Long Beach for 13.6 average; 24,594 got 328,874 for 13.4 at Twin Harbors; 8,845 got 86,845 for 9.8 at Copalis; and 14,538 got 192,356 for 13.2 at Mocrocks.

Digging is open:

Wednesday, Dec. 31, low tide is 3:05 p.m., 0.6 feet at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks and Copalis.

Thursday, Jan. 1, 4:01 p.m., 0.2 feet at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks and Copalis.

Friday, Jan. 2, 4:49 p.m., -0.2 feet at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks and Copalis.

Saturday, Jan. 3, 5:32 p.m., -0.5 feet at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Mocrocks and Copalis.

Sunday, Jan. 4, 6:12 p.m., -0.5 feet at Long Beach, Twin Harbors and Mocrocks.

Monday, Jan. 5, 6:48 p.m., -0.5 feet at Long Beach and Twin Harbors.

Tuesday, Jan. 6, 7:23 p.m., -0.3 feet at Long Beach and Twin Harbors.

Wednesday, Jan. 7, 7:57 p.m., -0.1 feet at Long Beach and Twin Harbors.

More digs are also tentatively scheduled from Jan. 17-24, Jan. 30-Feb. 6 and Feb. 15-22.
