State Fish and Wildlife Columbia River regional fishing reports

SALMON/STEELHEAD

Cowlitz River- 96 bank anglers kept 6 steelhead and 6 adult coho and released 1 adult coho.  25 boat anglers kept 8 steelhead and 3 adult coho.

During four days of operations at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator, last week Tacoma Power recovered:

  • 2,047 coho adults and 23 jacks
  • 215 winter-run steelhead
  • two cutthroat trout

During the past week Tacoma Power employees released:

  • 261 coho adults, six jacks, two winter-run steelhead and two cutthroat trout into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton.
  • 185 coho adults, one jack and one winter-run steelhead into the Cispus River above the mouth of Yellow Jacket Creek.

River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 11,100 cubic feet per second on Monday, December 29. Water visibility is seven feet.

SW WA hatchery winter steelhead returns

In general, hatchery returns are ahead of the same time last year.

Still chrome bright fall Chinook and coho being counted at Bonneville Dam.  About half the steelhead counted at the dam last week were hatchery fish.
