The final Tengu Blackmouth Derby of the winter fishing season ended with the top fish going to the same angler who also caught the largest fish on the first week way back in late October.

A total of 25 derby anglers hit the waters of Elliott Bay on Sunday, and Justin Wong of Seattle managed to pull in the single hatchery chinook of the day that weighed 4 pounds- 5 ounces. Wong caught the fish mid-morning off the east side of Duwamish Head.

“Lots of bait, shakers, and a larger keeper lost at the boat from the Head as well,” said Doug Hanada, derby president. “Elsewhere, some shakers were released but very little bait reported. Squid still hitting herring when left on the bottom too long all over the Bay. “

The final season standings: 1, Justin Wong, 13 pounds-9 ounce hatchery chinook; 2, Kelsey Sardeson, 8-1; 3, Benson Wong, 7-13.

The most fish caught for the season also went to Justin Wong with three fish.

The 70th Tengu Awards Banquet dinner date will be announced soon at the Sun Ya Restaurant, 625 7th Avenue South in Seattle. Cost is $17 for adults, $12 for children 12 years and under.
