Nooksack River and Whatcom Creek reopen for winter steelhead fishing

Two Western Washington rivers are reopening for winter steelhead after hatcheries achieved spawning escapement goals.

The Nooksack River from mouth to the confluence of the North and South Forks; South Fork Nooksack from mouth to Skookum Creek; Middle Fork Nooksack from mouth to city of Bellingham diversion dam; and North Fork from mouth to Nooksack Falls will all reopen Thursday, Jan. 1.

Whatcom Creek from the mouth to Woburn Street Bridge will also reopen for winter steelhead Thursday, Jan. 1.

The Kendall Creek and Whatcom Creek facilities have each achieved winter steelhead spawning goals.
