State Fish and Wildlife enforcement featured Sunday night on Animal Planet Network

Animal Planet’s new documentary series ‘Rugged Justice’ takes to the water and field with state Fish and Wildlife enforcement officers who respond to 225,000 calls annually.

The six-episode series begins at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18 on the Animal Planet Network.

Follow Sgt. Erik Olson as he seeks out salmon poachers in Puget Sound, and other officers on calls ranging from driving under the influence to wildlife poachers in the rugged, heavily forested terrain of the Cascades.

State Fish and Wildlife has 144 enforcement officers throughout Washington.

The episodes were filmed this past fall with director of photography Andrew Takeuchi who lives in Los Angeles and grew up in the Seattle area, along with a handful of cameramen and film crew.

“We had to wear bulletproof vests, and kept our distance when certain situations came up and they felt it was a dangerous situation,” Takeuchi said. “It was exciting to follow the officers as they went on each call.”
