Q&A: Earl Thomas

RENTON — To be the best, you’ve got to beat the best, right? Here’s how safety Earl Thomassees things going into Sunday’s game against San Francisco.

Q: Is it more exciting than any other week? Does it feel different getting toward the end of the season, the playoffs sitting there for you?

Thomas: It just feels good knowing we have an opportunity to make the playoffs. Last year, I think, around this time we knew pretty much we were out of it. It definitely feels good, especially when you’re still alive for the playoffs.

Q: When you have a team like this, which won the division last year and leading the division now, do you measure yourselves against this team?

Thomas: It’s no different, but being the competitors we are here in Seattle, we definitely want to be the best, especially in this division, and I feel like they’re kind of in the way. So I feel this is definitely a great matchup for us so we can show what we can do, and show the whole world what we can do.

Q: Does this feel similar to the game against Green Bay on Monday night. That game was on national TV, a spotlighted game, and it was a chance to make a statement.

Thomas: All of the nationally televised games have a certain feel to it. The sidelines are packed. Everybody is watching you, and it’s just a great chance for you to show what you’ve got.
