Travis Jones is expected to become Seattle’s new defensive line coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter the first to report he had accepted a job to join the Seahawks staff.
The team is expected to officially announce the move later this week, perhaps as soon as Wednesday. Jones comes to Seattle after coaching the past five years in New Orleans. Prior to that, he worked with the Miami Dolphins from 2005 to 2007 where he worked with Dan Quinn. Quinn was hired as Seattle’s defensive coordinator, replacing Gus Bradley who headed to Jacksonville to become the Jaguars head coach.
Before coming to the NFL, Jones worked at LSU where he was Nick Saban’s recruiting coordinator.
In 2010, Jones was suspended for 30 days without pay by the Saints after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud. He was allegedly involved in a real-estate scam, accused of making false statements on loan applications. The alleged actions took place while Jones was coaching in Florida, and he initially entered a plea of not guilty, but later changed that plea.
