The Seahawks have informed Leon Washington — their kick returner the past three years — that he will be released.
This comes as the Seahawks are preparing to add Percy Harvin, a wide receiver who has scored on five kickoff returns his first four seasons in the league.
Washington was acquired from the Jets on a draft-day trade in April 2010 and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in his third game as a Seahawk. He was one of the team’s best players in 2010 and made the Pro Bowl last season when he ranked second in the league in kickoff returns among players who had enough attempts to qualify for the league leaders.
He was scheduled to make $1.5 million in base salary with an additional $1 million bonus.
