Michael Bennett is a former — and apparently — future Seahawk. The free-agent defensive lineman from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has agreed with the Seahawks on a one-year contract with Seattle that will pay him $5 million, an agreement first reported by ProFootballTalk.com.
Bennett had nine sacks last season with the Buccaneers, the team that claimed him off waivers in 2009 when the Seahawks released him.
That’s right, Seattle released him. The Seahawks let him go after he made the team as an undrafted rookie coming out of Texas A&M only to be released in September in a roster move. Bennett was let go for Seattle to add Kyle Williams, an offensive tackle as the Seahawks were facing an injury crunch at that position.
It’s Seattle’s third free-agent addition that followed the trade for Percy Harvin in what is an incredibly busy week.
