The Seahawks are off the field following today’s OTA, which was open to the media.
Absent once again was running back Marshawn Lynch, who was also not present two weeks ago, but participated last Tuesday. He apparently did participate in a few workouts two weeks ago, just not in the one open to the media, and was there all last week. Coach Pete Carroll did not talk to the media today — he will speak on Thursday when the OTAs close — so there was no explanation other than the obvious, that these are voluntary workouts.
Also not present were OL Breno Giacomini, DB Antoine Winfield and rehabbing DT Chris Clemons.
Among those present but not participating were DE Cliff Avril, OG James Carpenter, SS Winston Guy, CB Tharold Simon, WRs Stephen Williams, Brett Swain and Charly Martin and TE Cooper Helfet.
Here are a couple of other quick observations and notes:
— Rookie TE Luke Willson struggled a bit in the OTA open to the media last week. He made a lot more plays today, including a diving grab and another when he ducked inside a defender to steal the ball away.
— With Lynch out, Robert Turbin and rookie Christine Michael got the majority of the reps with the ones. It was a good day for Michael, who missed last week’s OTA that was open to the media nursing a hamstring injury.
— Free agent Derrick Coleman, listed simply as a running back, appears to be getting a lot of work at fullback. Listed at 6-foot, 233, the UCLA product is similarly-sized to the team’s two listed fullbacks, Michael Robinson (6-1, 240) and Spencer Ware (5-10, 229).
— Richard Sherman (who else?) had maybe the defensive play of the day with an over-the-shoulder interception of a deep pass from Russell Wilson intended for Golden Tate during a 7-on-7 drill.
— DT Brandon Mebane also got a pick of a pass that had been deflected by Kam Chancellor.
— OL John Moffitt, who missed last week’s open OTA while dealing with legal issues, was present.
— Rookie Michael Bowie got some work with the first team at tackle with Giacomini out.
— CB Walter Thurmond, hoping to stay healthy, also appeared active throughout the workout, getting some work with the first unit in place of Winfield.
