Forbes rates Seahawks 27th most valuable pro sports franchise, 18th in NFL

Forbes magazine has released its annual list of the top 50 most valuable pro sports franchises in the world, and it proves again the power of the NFL right now.

As NFL.com notes, 30 of the league’s 32 teams made the cut — all but the Rams and the Jaguars.

That number obviously includes the Seahawks, who checked in at No. 27 overall, and No. 18 among NFL teams, with an assessed value of $1.04 billion.

The magazine’s brief description of the Seahawks notes that owner Paul Allen is the richest owner in sports with an estimated net worth of $15 billion.

For what it’s worth, that’s actually the same valuation the Seahawks had last year, which does seem sort of odd given that the franchise’s fortunes seem to be rising at the moment with the on-field success of a year ago and the high expectations for this season.

But the list also shows the power of tradition and brands as the Cowboys — who have won one playoff game since 1996 — are the top NFL team on the list at No. 5 overall.
