Carroll on Harvin: “We don’t know any more information yet”

Publicly, it was all quiet on the Percy Harvin front Tuesday even if there was undoubtedly a lot going on behind the scenes.

Harvin was in New York getting a second opinion on his ailing hip while the Seahawks were practicing at the VMAC in Renton.

After the practice, coach Pete Carroll said they had nothing new to report on Harvin.

“”We don’t know any more information yet, but we continue to progress with this simple thought that we are going to do whatever we need to do to help Percy get right whatever that is,” Carroll said. “So we will support the doctor’s finding and all  that stuff. They are working it out now. We should know more in the next day. But at this point we are just going to help him get right and whatever time frame that is we will  figure that out when we have all that information then.”

Carroll also refuted the idea that the Seahawks team doctors had made a recommendation that Harvin did not need surgery.

“We are still gathering information,”  Carroll said. “That’s not right because we haven’t made a conclusion, a conclusive statement about that yet. We are trying to wait it out and make sure we take all the time that’s available and all of the information, so whatever those reports were they weren’t correct.”

Carroll also said that ultimately, the final decision on whether Harvin will have surgery will be Harvin’s.

“Eventually he has to say ‘yeah, I’m getting surgery or not.’ He has to okay that. But that’s all going to be with the information fron the doctors, they are all working it out now and trying to get all the information. There is a lot of background work that we are doing here, too. But it will be doctor’s recommendation and of course the patient always gets the final shot.”

In a few other personnel updates:

— Carroll said WR Sidney Rice is in Switzerland having a preventative procedure on his knee. Carroll said it is not an injury, just a procedure Rice wanted to have done on his knee to make it stronger. He should be  back by the end of the week.

— DE  Cliff Avril missed practice due to a hamstring injury.

— DE Michael Bennett was absent with his wife giving birth.

— CB Ron Parker and OL Michael Bowie each missed practice with hamstring injuries.

— There did not appear to be any new injuries today on what was the team’s first day in full pads.
