Percy Harvin tweets he’ll need hip surgery

Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin tweeted Tuesday afternoon that he will need surgery on his ailing hip. Harvin was in New York getting a second opinion on his hip and revealed the news of his surgery via Twitter.

Here are his tweets:

There was no immediate comment from the Seahawks.

The Seahawks later confirmed the news and said that the injury will be performed Thursday in New York by Dr. Bryan Kelly, who gave Harvin his second opinion today.

The injury is likely to keep Harvin out for 3-4 months, meaning he could be back by late November or early December. Harvin is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Recent changes in that rule mean Harvin can be activated as late as the 15th week of the season.

Harvin will make a guaranteed $14.5 million this season, including a $12 million signing bonus on the six-year $67 million deal he signed after being acquired in March, and $2.5 million in salary.
