Thursday links: It’s a gameday, with an asterisk

It’s the first gameday of the season for the Seahawks — sort of.

It’s always hard to know how to feel  about exhibition games. Everybody realizes they are meaningless, teams aren’t really trying to win, etc.

On the other hand, it wasn’t meaningless last season when Russell Wilson played the way he did in the exhibition games to win the job and set his emergence as one of the top, young quarterbacks  in the game in motion. And the team’s 4-0 record in exhibition games in 2012 certainly looked a lot like what we saw later in the season, when the Seahawks morphed into legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

In general, though, exhibition games are about the young guys, about learning a lot more about some of the rookies and others who are still scrambling to make the team.

That was the focus of our preview story for the paper today, looking at those who may have the most to gain in the game tonight at San Diego.

We also had this notebook and camp glance.

Here are a few more links this morning. …
