The preliminary list of modern-era candidates for the 2014 Hall of Fame class was released tonight, and it includes a few prominent Seahawks — tackle Walter Jones (above in a Rod Mar photo), running back Shaun Alexander (also above) and coaches Mike Holmgren and Chuck Knox.
For Jones, Alexander and Holmgren it is all their first time being eligible.
It’s often assumed Jones, regarded as one of the best ever at his spot and one of only three Seahawks with his number retired (Steve Largent and Cortez Kennedy the others — fixed since first published) will be a slam dunk.
Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com agrees with that assessment of Jones in this story here, which assesses the chances of the 16 first-time nominees.
As you can read, Rosenthal thinks Holmgren has a strong case while putting Alexander in his category of players with an uphill climb to get in.
Knox has been on the list a few times but has yet to get in.
Tonight’s list of 116 will be narrowed to 25 semi-finalists in November.
