Friday practice report: Avril ready to go, Browner gametime decision

Cliff Avril pronounced himself ready to go after Friday’s practice, ready to make his Seahawk debut Sunday against the 49ers.

“I feel  like I’m ready to see what this crowd is like,” he said. “That’s the biggest thing everybody is talking about, the crowd, and as a defensive player that’s what we live for, so it should be fun.”

Avril, finally past a troublesome hamstring injury, practiced all week and said he feels the best he has since prior to training camp.

Cornerback Brandon Browner, though, is officially a gametime decision after being unable to practice all week. If he can’t go, then it would again be Walter Thurmond getting the start with help from Byron Maxwell in nickel situations.

Coach Pete Carroll had said earlier in the week he hoped Browner, who hurt his hamstring in practice last week, could practice this week. But he has been unable to go.

“We’ll see what happens on game day,” Carroll said. “He has not been able to get as much work as we had hoped. … just wasn’t right enough. He’s till  working and running in rehab but we did not get him on the field.”

Defensive end Chris Clemons, meanwhile, is listed as questionable after taking part in practice all week, though Carroll’s comments indicated he’s still a week or so away.

“He’s going to have a real chance in the next couple of weeks to get back and play for us,” Carroll said. “He’s really pushing us in that regard…  we are really thrilled that he is back this soon.”

Carroll said backup safety Jeron Johnson, who hurt his hamstring against Carolina, will not be able to play.

Also listed as out is defensive tackle Jordan Hill (biceps).

“He’s getting close,” Carroll said. “Next week we’ll try him and see how much he can do. … we are hoping if it’s not next week it’s the week after that.”

DTs Tony McDaniel and Brandon Mebane, who had each missed at least one practice this week, are listed as probable and Carroll said they are ready to go. Also good to go are WR Sidney Rice and TE Luke Willson, with OL Michael Bowie also listed as probable.

Here is video of the first couple minutes of Carroll’s meeting with the media today in which he addresses most of the personnel issues:
