Wednesday notes and quotes: Carroll says not to expect Harvin for Arizona game, Wagner may be out

A few quick notes and quotes to pass along following Pete Carroll’s press conference today. …

— Carroll said Percy Harvin is back in Seattle and “really moving” during workouts. But he said he thinks it’s unrealistic to expect Harvin back for the Arizona game next Thursday, which is the earliest he would be eligible via the PUP rules.

Asked if Harvin could be back for  the Arizona game, Carroll said: “I don’t think that’s realistic. I think that’s too soon to expect that to happen. It will happen. When it’s ready and he’s ready to go and we get a chance to prepare so he’s physically capable of being safe and he’s a full-on, full-speed football player –  he’s got to be ready to go. Really when he comes back we want him to be able to endure the rigors of the end of the season. It’s not important to rush him back, it’s important to wait it out and get him out there when he’s ready to go.”

— Carroll said MLB Bobby Wagner has a high ankle sprain and will not work today and indicated that it is unclear what his status us for Sunday’s game against Tennessee. If Wagner can’t play, Carroll said one option is putting K.J. Wright there and that Malcolm Smith could also fill in there (and if Wright moved to MLB, one option could be then having Smith play at WLB where he was last year). Carroll said of Wagner “he thinks he can make it by gametime but again this will go all the way ’til Sunday.”

— Carroll said Zach Miller “will go all the way to gameday again. He’s running today but we will take it all the way up (to gameday).”

— Carroll said Max Unger will practice today with the hope of getting back for the game. “He’s going to work today in a little bit limited fashion but we are kind of counting on him coming back this week,” Carroll said. “It’s really good to have him back. Lem (Lemuel Jeanpierre) did a fine job filling in but Max is really the guy who has the greatest command of what we are doing up front.”

— Carroll said not to expect any other personnel changes on the offensive line. Breno Giacomini is still a week or two away from returning;

— Carroll said Spencer Ware is still “hobbling around” on his high ankle sprain but that Jeremy Lane may get some work in. But he said it’s still too early to say if either will be back this week.

— Carroll said he thinks Sidney Rice “is still working it” with his knee but noted that he has been practicing every day.

Here is the first few minutes of Carroll’s press conference today:
