Carroll on KIRO: Getting harder to expect Unger or Bryant to play this weekend

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made his regular weekly Friday appearance on KIRO 97.3 this morning and made it sound as if it’s unlikely that either center Max Unger or defensive end Red Bryant will be able to play Sunday at Atlanta.

Neither has practiced this week while dealing with concussion-like symptoms that developed during the win over Tampa Bay last Sunday.

As reported by MyNorthwest.com, Carroll said:

“They have not had the opportunity to get back on the field. They go through this process and the doctors have not cleared them to this point. We’ll see what happens. I’ll get the word here in about 10 minutes about where we are today and then we’ll know more about it. But those guys, when they haven’t practiced for a couple of days, that starts to mean like it might be harder to expect them to play.”

Carroll will meet with the media following Friday’s practice later this afternoon when the team will also release its official injury report and status of players for the game.

If Unger can’t go, then Lemuel Jeanpierre will get the start, as he did in two earlier games this season when Unger was sidelined with an arm injury. If Bryant can’t go, then either Michael Bennett or Tony McDaniel will start, though the Seahawks rotate players through the line pretty liberally.
