Carroll: “That won’t deter us at all”

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said that the news of the suspensions of the last few days is “disappointing” but “won’t deter us at all” from the task of preparing for the New Orleans Saints Monday night.

You can see some of Carroll’s opening statement to the media following practice today, and I will pass along more complete quotes later.

Carroll referred specifically only to the suspension of Walter Thurmond, since Brandon Browner’s has yet to be announced.

But he essentially confirmed that Browner will soon be moved off the active roster — either via suspension or placed on Injured Reserve — when he announced that DeShawn Shead “will step up” onto the active roster.

Combined with the signing today of free agent Perrish Cox, Carroll said “we are back to full numbers” at the cornerback spot.

And he professed no concern over how the replacements will perform, saying “these guys can all play. They have played for us before. They have done great stuff when they have, and we have nothing to think about but the positive and the upside and these guys are going to contribute in a big way, just like our guys have across the board. That won’t deter us at all from having an extraordinary week of getting ready and getting jacked up about a great opportunity there with a fantastic football team coming in here Monday¬† night.”

As for the news regarding Thurmond, Carroll said in his opening statement:

“This is kind of how it goes at times and I know that over the years I’ve always found myself wanting to find guys that maybe need some considerations, some special opportunities to do what they can do. And sometimes it doesn’t always work out and guys get in trouble or something pops up. We will always look to give guys a second chance around here and the fact that the league has adjusted the rules, it allow our guys, a guy who is suspended, to be with us. We are going to take care of him, look after him, bring him along until we get him back. We are disappointed.”

Carroll also said that WR Percy Harvin was held out of practice today. “We are going to keep working through it,” he said. “We rehabbed him today. It’s always day-to-day right now.”

He also said WR Jermaine Kearse was back today from the concussion he suffered against the Vikings.
