Report: Seahawks to sign Cox

We reported yesterday that former 49er Perrish Cox had tried out with the Seahawks last week.

ESPN.com is reporting today that Cox will sign with the team if he passes a physical today, and that the Seahawks will then put Brandon Browner on IR.

That will end Browner’s season. and almost certainly his Seattle career.

Adding Cox will give Seattlea fourth cornerback, and the team could then make another move if Walter Thurmond is officially suspended, as is expected to happen. That could well be promoting DeShawn Shead from the practice squad, though Seattle is also known to have talked to Antoine Winfield, and to have brought in Marcus Trufant for a tryout on Monday.

The Seahawks will practice for the first time this week Tuesday afternoon, and coach Pete Carroll is then expected to meet with the media at-large afterward for his first comments since the news of the Browner suspension.

Here are Cox’s career stats, and here’s his NFL.com 2010 draft profile.  And here’s a story from when Cox was waived by the 49ers earlier this month.

The 49ers used Cox a lot covering slot receivers, something the Seahawks will need now with the loss of Thurmond.
