During our live Seahawks chat earlier today, one reader said it felt strange to not have anything to really complain about with the Seahawks right now.
The team’s 12-2 record — best in the NFL and tied for the best in franchise history with the 1984 and 2005 teams through 14 games — speaks clearly enough to Seattle’s positive state at the moment.
The guys at Football Outsiders, using more advanced metrics, reported today that the Seahawks also rank among the best teams in recent NFL memory through 14 games.
Here’s the link to their story saying that the Seahawks are tied with the 1995 49ers for the third-best DVOA through 14 games in recent NFL history behind only the 1991 Redskins and 2007 Patriots.
(And if you are wondering what DVOA is, it stands for Defense-adjusted Value Over Average, and is explained here. In essence, as the link states, it “takes every single play during the NFL season and compares each one to a league-average baseline based on situation”, judging giving up eight yards on third-and-10 differently than giving up eight yards on third-and-seven, etc.
(Fixed from earlier) The 1991 Redskins won the Super Bowl while the 2007 Patriots went 16-0 before losing to the Giants and the 1995 49ers went 11-5 before losing in the divisional round to the Packers.
Football Outsiders also gives Seattle odds of 25.8 to win the Super Bowl, followed by Denver at 17.8, New England at 11.3 and Carolina at 10.9.
