Walter Thurmond spoke to the media after Friday’s practice, and Jayson Jenks has the story here.
Thurmond said he’ll learn from the mistake but won’t dwell on it. And as you can read, coach Pete Carroll said Byron Maxwell will continue to start. Expect Thurmond to step back into being the nickelback.
And in case you missed it, the Seahawks did put Thurmond back on the 53-man active roster following practice Friday. So the Seahawks roster for the Rams game appears set, and for now they are leaving Percy Harvin on it, though he has been ruled out for the game.
IN OTHER NEWS. …
— Here’s our notebook, leading with the news of the six Seahawks named to the Pro Bowl. The biggest snub is probably punter Jon Ryan, who has been a key part of the fact that the Seahawks have allowed just 25 punt return yards all season, on pace to shatter the 16-game record of 49 by Atlanta in 2008. The issue undoubtedly is that Ryan has an average of 41.8 that ranks him 30th in the NFL As Ryan has said all year, he has intentionally tried to take a few yards off his punts to increase hangtime and the ability to put them where he wants. But these kinds of things often just go to those who boom them away — the two who were named, Brandon Fields and Johnny Hekker of the Rams, are second and 10th in average punt.
It also feels like someone off the front seven of what is statistically the best defense in the NFL should also have been honored — especially when nine players from the team were named, including alternates. But the issue there may be the team’s depth, a main reason for the success of the Seahawks but which also helps keep the individual numbers down for any of the players.
