Interesting stuff from NFL.com this morning on the officiating crew for today’s game, and an apparent decree to call the game tight early to make sure it doesn’t get out of control.
This was a constant theme of the week among the Seattle players — Jayson Jenks wrote about it earlier this week.
Offensive tackle Breno Giacomini, who has gone from a player noted for getting a few too many dumb penalties to one who now more often than not plays peacemaker, said earlier this week the players know it will be a physical game.
“A lot is on the line here,” he said. “But you’ve definitely got to control your emotions and just hit them on the next play. There’s no need for that. That’s something I’ve learned, just get them on the next play.”
Linebacker K.J. Wright said defensive players have also talked about how the officiating could impact the game.
“We know that it will be a chippy game,” Wright said.
It sounds like the officials will be mandated to make sure it doesn’t get too chippy. And their definition of that could help dictate how the game is played.
