Last week several websites used polls and other data to draw maps that showed the Denver Broncos as the preferred team in most states across the country. New data released today by Facebook paints a different picture.
Facebook says: “[This map] represents who people on Facebook were actually rooting for based on Super Bowl Sunday chatter. We think this tells a great story about fans showing their true colors. What do you see?”
I see the obvious Northwest support, but also some other key areas of blue:
- Folks in the Northeast likely cheered the ‘Hawks because the New England Patriots lost to Denver in the AFC Championship game.
- Wisconsin is a Midwest Seahawks outpost because Russell Wilson was quarterback at the University of Wisconsin.
- Southern Californians love the blue, most likely because of their rivalry with San Francisco.
- And not so obviously, fans in Florida and the Southeast went Seattle’s way.
We asked people to share their theories on Facebook and many of them did.
