John Fox: “I think we were capable of playing better”

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is expected at the NFL Combine tomorrow. His Super Bowl coaching counterpart, John Fox, is here already, and during his regularly scheduled meeting with the media today, said what might be expected — he remains disappointed in what happened in New Jersey.

“I think first of all. I give Seattle tremendous credit for playing very well and playing better than we did,” Fox said. “As I look back and have a chance to look at the tape and expound on that, I htink we were capable of playing better. That’s not taking anything away from them, because as I said before, they had a lot to do with it. It was disappointing that we didn’t play better. We had a great season and unfortunately we did not have our best effort in the last game.”

Asked if the Seattle defense is leading a change in the way the league looks at defenses, Fox said not really.

“They are very talented,” Fox said. “They’ve got good length and good speed. You don’t trot through the NFL regular season being the best defense in the league for nothing. They are very good. I don’t know that there is a huge change other than that they play good defense.”
