Video: A view of the Michael Sam press conference

The Michael Sam press conference at the NFL Combine today didn’t disappoint.

It was expected to draw one of the biggest media hordes in the history of this event, and it did — as you can see in the video below.

Sam also not only answered every question that came his way, but also stood up as well as could be expected under the spotlight, impressing just about everyone in attendance with his poise and candor.

Sam said he understood that he’ll get some different sorts of questions after his recent announcement that he is gay.

But he also delivered what figures to be the most memorable statement of this event, saying he hopes soon that “people see me as Michael Sam, the football player, and not Michael Sam, the gay football player.”

Here’s another take on the Sam press conference from Pro Football Talk.
