ESPN report: Seahawks remain favorites to re-sign Bennett

It may feel like it’s hard to keep track of all the twists and turns in Michael Bennett’s free agency.

But if an ESPN report is accurate, the saga may end today.

As first Tweeted by Adam Schefter, the Seahawks are again considered the favorites to sign Bennett, something that could happen today (teams can re-sign their own players prior to the start of tomorrow’s official free agent signing period):

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, meanwhile, reported that the Seahawks are offering a four-year deal worth $8 million per season:

Seattle created room to re-sign Bennett when it cut Sidney Rice and Red Bryant.

Keeping Bennett in the fold, and also setting the salary cap stage to be able to re-sign the likes of Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman and Russell Wilson over the next year, is thought to be Seattle’s main goal  during the free agency period. And getting Bennett done before the free agency period begins would be all the better.

It was reported last week that Bennett wanted to test the free agency waters before signing with  anyone, and there were reports last night (linked  below) that some around the league considered the Bears the favorites to sign him. But today, the momentum appears back on Seattle’s side.

Bennett was in town this weekend, appearing at a local fundraiser.
